Team Overview

Los Angeles enters 2026 as the betting favorite to win Super Bowl LXI, and the roster justifies it. The Rams went 12-5 last season with a point differential of plus-172, the best mark of Sean McVay’s nine years, before falling to Seattle in overtime in the NFC Championship Game. Matthew Stafford won MVP at 38. Puka Nacua led the league in receptions with 129 catches for 1,715 yards. Davante Adams led the league in receiving touchdowns.

Then the front office added rather than stood pat. Los Angeles traded for All-Pro cornerback Trent McDuffie in March and for reigning Defensive Player of the Year Myles Garrett on June 1. Garrett arrives off a season with more than 20 sacks and over 30 tackles for loss. Stafford re-signed for one year at $55 million and turns 39 during the season, which is why the Rams spent the 13th overall pick on Ty Simpson. Nacua is playing out a contract year of his own.

Offensive Line Analysis

This unit is the quiet reason the offense finished first in the league in yards per play. Los Angeles was second-best in football at avoiding sacks, and it led the NFL in snaps out of 13 personnel, which asks the front to hold up in heavy sets. Kevin Dotson anchors the interior. The concerns are medical rather than structural. Left tackle Alaric Jackson is still being treated for a recurring blood clot issue that has been in his file for more than a year, and center Justin Dedich is on injured reserve with a designation to return. McVay has managed reps carefully across the roster, and the line bounced back in Week 2, with Stafford pressured on just 15 percent of his dropbacks against the Giants. Getting Dedich back is what turns this into a top-tier line again.

Defensive Line Analysis

Garrett was supposed to change everything about this front. The Rams already ranked inside the top ten in sack rate without him, and adding the league’s best pass rusher gave Chris Shula a genuine focal point. Instead, Garrett played through knee pain in the opener, underwent arthroscopic surgery and was placed on injured reserve, and he is not eligible to return until the Week 6 home game against Arizona. The unexpected boost came from Aaron Donald, who ended his retirement on a one-year deal in early September and returned in Week 2. Byron Young and Josaiah Stewart carry more of the edge rush until Garrett is back. Once all three are healthy together, this is a far more dangerous front than the one that came up short in Seattle.

2026 NFL Season

Week 1

49ers vs Los Angeles Rams | Thursday, September 10 | 8:35 PM ET | Melbourne Cricket Ground, Melbourne, Australia

The Rams open as designated home team at a neutral site, in the NFL’s first regular-season game in Australia. Los Angeles opened at -2.5 with a moneyline of -148 against San Francisco’s +124 and a total of 48.5, and the spread has since firmed toward -3. Both teams finished 12-5 last season and both were eliminated by Seattle. This is a rivalry game with real seeding stakes disguised as an exhibition of the league’s global ambitions.

The total is the honest read on this matchup. McVay and Kyle Shanahan have produced an 11-8 over record head to head since 2017, including a 5-1 run over the past three years. Add an open-air venue, a 17-hour time difference and two of the best play callers in football, and 48.5 looks reachable. The Rams’ new defensive pieces get an immediate test against the one offense that has consistently solved them.

Week 1 Recap

Los Angeles opened the season with a 27-7 loss to the San Francisco 49ers at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, in the first NFL regular-season game played in Australia. The Rams were the betting favorite to win Super Bowl LXI coming in, and they scored once. Kyren Williams punched in a five-yard touchdown to open the second quarter for a 7-3 lead, and that was the last point Los Angeles scored. San Francisco answered with 24 unanswered.

Matthew Stafford had the worst outing of his MVP-winning run, completing 17 of 28 for 168 yards with no touchdowns, an interception and a 62.8 rating. He was knocked down eight times and charted with seven poor throws. The offense that led the NFL in yards per play a year ago managed 290 total yards and 15 first downs, and Puka Nacua and Davante Adams combined for no scores. Two turnovers and only two red zone pass attempts tell the rest of it.

The defense was the bigger surprise. Los Angeles recorded zero sacks and two quarterback hits, and Myles Garrett did not register a tackle in his Rams debut. Aaron Donald, who un-retired on a one-year deal in early September, was ruled out for the trip. Brock Purdy was never pressured into a mistake, throwing three touchdowns on a 105.6 rating, and San Francisco ran for 174 yards at 5.8 a carry without losing a single yard on the ground. Sean McVay called it a good humbling day.

Week 2

Giants at Los Angeles Rams | Monday, September 21 | 8:15 PM ET | SoFi Stadium, Inglewood, CA

Los Angeles hosts the New York Giants on Monday Night Football as a home favorite, coming off the most deflating opener any contender suffered in Week 1. The Rams are 0-1 and were outgained by 89 yards in Melbourne, while New York arrives at 1-0 after a Sunday night win over Dallas.

Everything here turns on health and adjustment rather than talent. Myles Garrett is on injured reserve after knee surgery, so a front that produced zero sacks in the opener has to find pressure without him, and Aaron Donald‘s first game since 2023 becomes the obvious variable. Puka Nacua is also dealing with a hip injury. A home game after a 17-hour return flight is a real factor, and the extra day before Monday night helps. Matthew Stafford turns 39 this season and took eight knockdowns in Australia, so how the offensive line responds matters as much as anything he does. Los Angeles was a 12-5 team last year that reached the NFC Championship Game. One bad night does not undo that, but a second one would change the conversation.

Week 2 Recap

Los Angeles bounced back from Melbourne with a 28-6 win over the New York Giants on Monday Night Football, and it did it without two of its biggest stars. Puka Nacua was inactive with a hip injury, and Myles Garrett is on injured reserve after knee surgery and will miss at least four games. It did not matter. Matthew Stafford completed 22 of 31 for 327 yards and four touchdowns with one interception, a 131.3 rating, and his third touchdown of the night was the 426th of his career, moving him past Philip Rivers into sixth on the NFL’s all-time list.

Davante Adams carried the receiving corps with eight catches for 195 yards and two touchdowns, from 31 and 11 yards. Kyren Williams caught a 10-yard score and tight end Terrance Ferguson added a five-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter. The Rams piled up 481 total yards at 8.0 per play, 163 of them on the ground at 5.8 per carry. The only blemishes were two turnovers, both collected by Giants defensive back Jevon Holland, and a missed field goal just before halftime.

Aaron Donald played 32 snaps in his first game since the 2023 season and finished with three tackles, including a tackle for loss that kept the Giants out of the end zone while it was still a two-score game. New York never scored a touchdown. Trent McDuffie intercepted Jameis Winston for his first pick as a Ram and set a career high with four passes defended, while the front held the Giants to 52 rushing yards. It helped that New York lost starter Jaxson Dart to a knee injury after one possession, and Winston completed 11 of 27 passes in relief. Los Angeles is now 1-1.

Week 3

Rams at Denver Broncos | Sunday, September 27 | 8:20 PM ET | Empower Field at Mile High, Denver, CO

Los Angeles opened as a 2.5-point road favorite on Sunday Night Football, priced at -138 on the moneyline against the Denver Broncos at +118, with the total at 44.5. That line was posted before Monday night, so expect it to move toward the Rams after a 22-point win. Denver is 1-1 after a 20-13 win over Jacksonville that followed a 31-10 loss in Kansas City.

The absences shape this matchup. Without Garrett, Denver’s offensive line gets a much softer look than it expected, and Bo Nix is back from the fractured ankle that ended his 2025 season. The Broncos defense just held Jacksonville to 284 yards and 13 points, snapping the Jaguars’ nine-game regular-season winning streak, and Mile High is a difficult place for any visiting offense. Nacua’s hip is the injury to track this week, though Monday showed the Rams’ passing game can run through Adams. Denver has its own backfield questions, with J.K. Dobbins nursing a hamstring. If Stafford plays the way he did against New York, 2.5 points is a small number to lay.

Week 3 Recap

The Rams lost 30-26 at Denver on Sunday night, after leading 16-0 at halftime. Los Angeles outgained the Broncos 273 yards to 67 before the break. Then the game turned entirely. Late penalties on Denver’s winning drive proved decisive, and Bo Nix finished it from a yard out.

Matthew Stafford threw for 390 yards and two touchdowns on 30 of 55 attempts. However, he also threw two interceptions, including a 66-yard return for a score. Kyren Williams carried 15 times for 88 yards and totalled 158 from scrimmage. Meanwhile, Davante Adams caught seven passes for 137 yards, his second straight 100-yard game. Konata Mumpfield added a 48-yard touchdown that briefly put Los Angeles back ahead.

Defensively, the Rams could not protect a 16-point cushion. Denver scored two touchdowns and two conversions in the third quarter alone. At 1-2, Los Angeles now trails San Francisco by two games in the NFC West. Cornerback Jaylen Watson left on a cart with a shoulder injury and did not return. Puka Nacua missed the game entirely with a hip problem.

Week 4

Los Angeles Rams at Philadelphia Eagles | Sunday, October 4 | 1:00 PM ET | Lincoln Financial Field, Philadelphia, PA

An early kickoff in Philadelphia comes next, against a team that opened the season 2-0. The Eagles beat Washington 24-22, then won 24-20 in Tennessee. Jalen Hurts threw five touchdown passes across those two games. Meanwhile, Philadelphia converts 53.1 percent of its third downs, fifth-best in the league. Tight end Dallas Goedert is out, however, after spraining a knee ligament.

Los Angeles is a 2.5-point road favorite, with the total at 45.5. The market clearly respects this offense, even though the Rams are 1-2. Sean McVay expects Nacua back, which would restore the route tree Stafford missed on Sunday night. Still, the Rams just surrendered a 16-point lead and have lost two of three. Because Stafford threw two interceptions in Denver, ball security is the obvious theme. Discipline late in games will decide whether this road price holds.

Odds to Win Division and Super Bowl

Odds to Win NFC West: -110

Odds to Win Super Bowl: +550

Predictions

Overall Record: The Rams project to finish around 12-5 or better, with the market pricing them among the top two seeds in the NFC

Playoff Chances: The shortest playoff odds in the conference

Super Bowl Chances: The outright favorite, with no other team shorter than +1000 at most books

Los Angeles is as complete as any roster in football. The offense returns intact and led the league in yards per play, the defense added a Defensive Player of the Year and an All-Pro corner, and McVay has been to the postseason seven times in nine years. The case against them is age and health rather than talent. Stafford is on a modified practice schedule and turns 39 in February, Jackson’s blood clot issue has no clean resolution, and the NFC West may be the hardest division in football with Seattle defending a title. Expect a deep run, with the ceiling defined by whether Stafford is standing in January.
